MIR8055 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 8055
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies in myocarditis have uncovered that MIR8055 plays a critical anti‐inflammatory role in the heart. In particular, the circular RNA circACSL1 (hsa_circ_0071542) was found to be significantly upregulated during the acute phase of myocarditis, where it functions as a competing endogenous RNA by sponging MIR8055. This sequestration of MIR8055 leads to the de‐repression and subsequent upregulation of MAPK14, a key mediator in inflammatory signaling, thereby aggravating myocardial inflammation, injury, and apoptosis. Importantly, overexpression of MIR8055 was shown to counteract these pro‐inflammatory effects by attenuating the MAPK14 increase, suggesting that MIR8055 acts as a pivotal negative regulator of inflammatory cascades in cardiomyocytes."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nConversely, in investigations focused on tooth development, the extracellular matrix protein Vwde was identified as essential for proper enamel formation through its regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation in inner enamel epithelial cells.
