MIR8070 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 8070
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Specifically, the research demonstrates that the viral reverse transcriptase (RT) interacts directly with the eukaryotic translation release factor 1 (eRF1) to promote translational readthrough at the UAG stop codon located at the end of the gag coding region. This RT–eRF1 interplay enhances suppression of termination, thereby ensuring the production of sufficient levels of the Gag-Pol precursor essential for proper virion assembly and replicative competency. Although the abstract does not explicitly mention MIR8070, its inclusion in this context raises the possibility that MIR8070 could serve a regulatory role in fine-tuning translation termination processes or modulating the RT–eRF1 interaction. Future investigations will be necessary to ascertain whether MIR8070 contributes directly to this translational control mechanism in retroviral gene expression.\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Marianna Orlova, Andrew Yueh, Juliana Leung, et al.
