MIR8084 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 8084
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA wealth of studies has detailed the multifaceted roles of N‐methyl‑D‑aspartate (NMDA) receptors in the central nervous system. These receptors, assembled from various GluN2 subunits, regulate synaptic plasticity, neuronal development, excitotoxicity, and a broad spectrum of behaviors—from motor control and emotional processing to cognitive function. For example, investigations have demonstrated that specific subunits such as NR2D (and others) contribute to distinct channel properties, receptor kinetics, and synaptic as well as extrasynaptic signaling across multiple brain regions. These findings have been integral to our understanding of neurodevelopment, stress responsiveness, sensory processing, and even the modulation of neuropathological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, and stroke."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "28"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast to these extensively characterized receptor‐mediated mechanisms, recent evidence has begun to shed light on the potential regulatory role of microRNAs in modulating cellular functions.
