| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 875 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMIR875 plays diverse roles in cancer biology by modulating key oncogenic and tumor‐suppressive pathways. In several malignancies, such as prostate cancer, colorectal carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric cancer, and HPV‐associated cervical cancer, reconstituted or endogenous MIR875 (in its 5p or 3p forms) acts as a tumor suppressor. Its restoration has been shown to enhance radiosensitivity in prostate cancer by targeting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and counteracting epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition and DNA repair processes. In colorectal carcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, MIR875 represses cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while inducing apoptosis through downregulation of oncogenic targets such as EGFR and eIF3a. Similarly, in gastric cancer, MIR875 directly targets NOTCH3—thereby inhibiting NOTCH3‐mediated oncogenic signaling—and in HPV‐related cervical cancer models, MIR875 suppresses the viral E6 oncogene, promoting cell cycle arrest and apoptosis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast, in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) MIR875 has been reported to be upregulated and to promote malignant behaviors. Elevated levels of MIR875 in NSCLC cell lines enhance cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by inhibiting the expression of targets such as SATB2, suggesting an oncogenic role. Consistent with this, studies using NSCLC models—including investigations in A549 cells—have further evaluated the effects of MIR875 modulation, and a lncRNA (HCG11) that sponges MIR875 was found to attenuate its activity, ultimately restraining tumorigenic properties. These observations underscore the context‐dependent and tissue‐specific functions of MIR875, making it a potential target for therapeutic interventions in lung cancer."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "6", "end_ref": "9"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Lin Lin, Qingqing Cai, Xiaoyan Zhang, et al.
