| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 892a |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

The binding of miR-892a to a specific site in CYP1A1 leads to a reduction in CYP1A1 protein levels, which in turn can modulate the cellular response to carcinogens such as benzo(a)pyrene. Notably, the exposure to benzo(a)pyrene itself results in decreased miR-892a levels, suggesting a feedback loop that may influence both detoxification processes and the maintenance of cell viability under toxic stress conditions."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn parallel, emerging insights into gastric cancer have highlighted that aberrant expression of miR-892a might contribute to tumor progression. Although the detailed molecular mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated, investigating the expression and functional role of miR-892a in this cancer type underscores its potential as a biomarker or therapeutic target, reflecting the broader importance of microRNA dysregulation in malignancies."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nTogether, the studies emphasize the multifaceted functions of miR-892a in diverse biological contexts – from modulating enzyme expression involved in carcinogen metabolism to potentially influencing tumorigenic processes.
