MIR922 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 922
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMicroRNA‐922 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease by diminishing ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1) levels. Reduced UCHL1 in turn results in increased levels of phosphorylated tau, a key contributor to neurofibrillary tangle formation and disease progression. Such dysregulation underscores a potential mechanistic link between miR-922 expression and Alzheimer’s pathology."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn the realm of oncology, miR-922 functions predominantly as an oncomiR across multiple tumor types. In hepatocellular carcinoma, miR-922 is significantly upregulated and promotes cell proliferation by targeting the tumor suppressor cylindromatosis (CYLD), thereby indirectly enhancing c-Myc and cyclin D1 expression. Similarly, in gastric cancer, elevated miR-922 levels inhibit apoptosis while fostering cell proliferation, migration, and invasion through the downregulation of suppressors of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1). Moreover, in liver cancer, the transcription factor CREB1 augments miR-922 expression, which then targets ARID2 to enhance malignant behaviors. Collectively, these findings indicate that miR-922 contributes to tumor progression by interfering with key regulatory proteins that normally constrain cell growth and survival."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "2", "end_ref": "4"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nAdditionally, serum levels of miR-922 show promise as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, suggesting its utility beyond solid tumors and neurodegenerative disorders."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Z-B Zhao, L Wu, R Xiong, et al.
