MIR934 Gene

HGNC Family Non-coding RNAs
Name microRNA 934
Description microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have identified miR-934 as an oncogenic microRNA that drives tumor progression by fine‐tuning key regulatory pathways in different cancer types. In bladder cancer, miR-934 is highly overexpressed and functions to promote cell proliferation by directly binding to the 3′-UTR of ubiquitin‐conjugating enzyme 2N (UBE2N) mRNA. This binding down-regulates UBE2N protein levels, which in turn attenuates the degradation of CDK6, leading to CDK6 protein accumulation and enhanced tumor cell growth."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSimilarly, miR-934 plays a crucial role in colorectal and triple-negative breast cancers. In colorectal cancer cells, elevated miR-934 levels promote proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis by directly targeting the tumor suppressor BTG2, resulting in its reduced expression and thereby facilitating oncogenic behavior. In triple-negative breast cancer, miR-934 is specifically associated with the modulation of epithelial–mesenchymal transition programs by regulating a set of mesenchymal genes, and its inhibition leads to a marked decrease in the migratory capabilities of these cancer cells. Together, these findings underscore the importance of miR-934 as a potent oncomiR that orchestrates tumorigenic processes through distinct molecular effectors in multiple cancer contexts."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Huiying Yan, Shuwei Ren, Qi Lin, et al.
