| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | microRNA 936 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

In glioma, for instance, miR-936 is directly inhibited by the overexpressed circular RNA circ_0001162, leading to the derepression of its target ERBB4 and promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Similarly, in gastric cancer, miR-936 down-regulates FGF2 expression and modulates the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway to impede tumor progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nDisruptions in miR-936 function have also been implicated in other malignancies. In non-small cell lung cancer, miR-936 targets G protein-coupled receptor 78 (GPR78) to regulate chemoresistance through the Galphaq Rho GTPase pathway. In hepatocellular carcinoma, miR-936 is markedly reduced; its overexpression suppresses cell proliferation and migration, induces G1 cell cycle arrest, and achieves these effects in part through the direct downregulation of jagged-1 (JAG1). Collectively, these findings highlight miR-936 as a potent tumor suppressor, where its loss or inhibition contributes to disease progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n \nAlthough circular RNAs have been studied in the context of environmental factors such as PM2.5—with implications for respiratory illnesses—the direct involvement of miR-936 in pollutant-related pathophysiological responses has not yet been established, underscoring potential directions for future research."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "5"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Dexiang Zhou, Xiaofeng Lin, Peng Wang, et al.
