| Name | microRNA 943 |
| Description | microRNAs (miRNAs) are short (20-24 nt) non-coding RNAs that are involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in multicellular organisms by affecting both the stability and translation of mRNAs. miRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts (pri-miRNAs) that can be either protein-coding or non-coding. The primary transcript is cleaved by the Drosha ribonuclease III enzyme to produce an approximately 70-nt stem-loop precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), which is further cleaved by the cytoplasmic Dicer ribonuclease to generate the mature miRNA and antisense miRNA star (miRNA*) products. The mature miRNA is incorporated into a RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing with the miRNA and most commonly results in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. The RefSeq represents the predicted microRNA stem-loop. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn allergic asthma, miR‐943-3p functions as a proinflammatory and pro-remodeling mediator by targeting secreted frizzled-related protein 4 (SFRP4), a key negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway. Upregulation of miR‐943-3p in both human patients and an ovalbumin-induced mouse model leads to downregulation of SFRP4, which in turn contributes to enhanced Wnt pathway activation, increased inflammatory cell infiltration, collagen deposition, subepithelial fibrosis, and smooth muscle thickening. Importantly, in vivo modulation experiments demonstrated that delivery of a miR‐943-3p agomir exacerbates airway pathology, whereas administration of its antagomir or SFRP4 supplementation can attenuate disease progression."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nA separate investigation focused on spermiogenesis explored mechanisms responsible for the stabilization of translationally repressed mRNAs during sperm development, though this study did not directly address or report a role for miR-943 in these processes.
