Description This gene contains a predicted ORF that encodes a protein with two zinc finger domains. The function of the encoded protein is not known. Sequence analysis suggests that multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants are derived from this gene but the full-length nature of only two of them is known. These two splice variants encode different isoforms. A pseudogene for this gene is located on Xq28. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

In transformed human fibroblasts, proper PHF10 function is essential for cell growth, with both its overexpression in truncated forms and its knockdown leading to impaired proliferation. In various cancer contexts, including gastric cancer and melanoma, PHF10 supports tumor cell proliferation by acting as a transcriptional repressor of apoptotic mediators like caspase‐3 and by cooperating with oncogenes such as MYC. In addition, recent work reveals a novel function for PHF10 in the DNA damage response where its loss‐of‐function heightens the recruitment of damage markers (γH2AX, RAD51, 53BP1) at double‐strand break sites and diminishes homologous recombination repair efficiency.
