| HGNC Family | Non-coding RNAs |
| Name | small nucleolar RNA, C/D box 115-1 |
| Description | This gene encodes a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) that is found clustered with dozens of other similar snoRNAs on chromosome 15. These genes are found mostly within introns of the IC-SNURF-SNRPN transcript, which is paternally imprinted and from the Prader-Willi/Angelman syndrome (PWS) region. This gene has been designated as copy 1 of the cluster and may be involved in the regulation of RNA editing and/or alternative splicing of the serotonin receptor 2C (HTR2C) transcript. This gene is not thought to play a major role in PWS. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nSNORD115-1 (commonly referred to as HBII-52) is a brain‐specific C/D box small nucleolar RNA encoded within the imprinted 15q11–q13 region. It has been shown to regulate the alternative splicing of the serotonin 2C receptor mRNA by directly binding to a silencing element located in exon Vb, thereby influencing the balance of receptor isoforms. This regulatory interaction suggests that SNORD115-1 contributes to the fine control of receptor activity in the central nervous system, with potential implications for neurogenetic conditions such as Prader–Willi syndrome, where its expression is absent."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn addition, although SNORD115-1 is one of several paternally expressed snoRNAs in this region, studies in affected families have indicated that the complete loss of SNORD115-1 does not necessarily result in an overt clinical phenotype. This finding underscores the possibility that while SNORD115-1 modulates pre-mRNA processing events, it may not be solely responsible for the overall pathogenesis of Prader–Willi syndrome."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMoreover, comparative and evolutionary analyses have revealed significant sequence similarities between SNORD115-1 and other snoRNAs such as SNORD119.
