VLDLR-AS1 Gene

Name VLDLR antisense RNA 1
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn hepatocellular and esophageal carcinoma models, VLDLR‐AS1 (also known as linc‐VLDLR) is a long noncoding RNA that becomes enriched in extracellular vesicles released by malignant cells. Its expression is robustly upregulated in response to chemotherapeutic stress—including treatment with agents such as sorafenib, camptothecin, and doxorubicin—and it appears to contribute to chemoresistance by promoting cell cycle progression and enhancing cell viability. Mechanistically, VLDLR‐AS1 knockdown reduces cellular viability and disrupts the cell cycle, in part by decreasing the expression of key drug efflux transporters such as ABCG2, thereby potentiating chemotherapy‐induced cell death."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast to its pro-survival role in cancer cells, circulating levels of VLDLR‐AS1 are significantly lower in patients with repetitive mild traumatic brain injuries (rmTBI). This reduction is associated with a higher burden of depression symptoms, suggesting that VLDLR‐AS1 may serve as a blood-based biomarker for chronic neurological injury and depression. The evidence supporting this diagnostic potential underscores the diverse roles of VLDLR‐AS1 in both cancer stress responses and neuropsychiatric sequelae following traumatic injury."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "3"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Kenji Takahashi, Irene K Yan, Joseph Wood, et al.
