Although its expression is elevated in breast cancer tissues relative to normal counterparts, higher levels of ZNF500 are associated with less aggressive disease, including lower TNM stage, reduced lymph node metastasis, and improved prognosis. Mechanistically, ZNF500 suppresses breast cancer cell growth by directly interacting with p53 via its C2H2 domain, thereby competing with MDM2 to prevent p53 ubiquitination.
