ZSCAN16-AS1 Gene

Name ZSCAN16 antisense RNA 1
Summary
{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent studies have demonstrated that the long non‐coding RNA ZSCAN16‐AS1 is significantly up‐regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is strongly associated with enhanced tumor malignancy and poorer patient prognosis. Functional experiments revealed that silencing ZSCAN16‐AS1 substantially inhibited HCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while promoting apoptosis, thereby confirming its pro‐oncogenic role in this cancer type."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nMechanistically, ZSCAN16‐AS1 exerts its effects by serving as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sequesters specific microRNAs, thus modulating downstream oncogenic pathways. In one study, ZSCAN16‐AS1 was shown to sponge miR-181c-5p, resulting in the derepression of sperm associated antigen 9 (SPAG9) and subsequent activation of the c-Jun-N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway. In a complementary study, ZSCAN16‐AS1 was found to bind miR-451a, thereby upregulating activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2), which further contributed to tumor progression. These findings underscore the potential of targeting the ZSCAN16‐AS1/miRNA/mRNA axes as a novel therapeutic strategy in HCC."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "2"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "rg", "children": [{"type": "r", "ref": 1, "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "Jianwen Liu, Ruiqing Liu, Yuyan Liu, et al.
