Encyclopedia of DNA Elements Resource

Description The Encyclopedia of DNA Elements is a genome mapping project that seeks to annotate the human genome with information about genes and elements that regulate gene transcription, such as transcription factor binding sites. So far, the ENCODE project has completed over 1000 assays for mapping transcription factor binding sites using ChIP-Seq. Chromatin immuno-precipitation followed by sequencing (ChIP-Seq) is a method for identifying transcription factor binding sites that involves isolation and sequencing of short strands of DNA to which an immuno-precipitated transcription factor was bound. Subsequently, target genes of transcription factors can be inferred based on the proximity of transcription factor binding sites to transcription start sites of genes.
