In organisms such as Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, CFAP100 (encoded by the MIA1 gene and also referred to as FAP100) partners with CFAP73 (FAP73, encoded by MIA2) to form the MIA complex. This complex is strategically positioned immediately distal to the intermediate/light chain sub‐complex of the I1 (dynein f) inner dynein arms and appears to establish physical interactions with regulatory structures such as the nexin‐dynein regulatory complex. As a result, CFAP100 is essential for the stable assembly and proper regulation of I1 dynein, which in turn is crucial for generating an efficient flagellar waveform and maintaining normal beat frequency and motility.
