{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\n Eukaryotic initiation factor 4B (eIF4B) is a critical regulator of translation initiation that acts by stimulating the helicase activity of eIF4A to resolve inhibitory secondary structures in the 5′ untranslated region of mRNAs. eIF4B thereby promotes the efficient recruitment of the 40S ribosomal subunit and facilitates scanning for the initiation codon. Importantly, phosphorylation of eIF4B on Ser422—mediated by S6 kinases in response to insulin and other mitogenic signals as well as by RSK—enhances its association with the eIF3 complex, which further supports the assembly of active translation preinitiation complexes.
