| Name | mitochondrial ribosomal protein L50 |
| Description | Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and help in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. This gene encodes a putative 39S subunit protein and belongs to the L47P ribosomal protein family. Pseudogenes corresponding to this gene are found on chromosomes 2p, 2q, 5p, and 10q. These studies detail mechanisms by which p73 (both its transactivation‐competent and dominant‐negative forms) and allied proteins regulate DNA damage responses, genomic stability, neural and epithelial differentiation, multiciliogenesis, angiogenesis, and even aspects of cellular metabolism. Notably, they dissect how p73 interacts with a variety of molecular partners (such as miRNAs, cell cycle regulators, transcriptional coactivators, and E3 ubiquitin ligases) to fine‐tune downstream signaling pathways with vast implications in tumor biology and physiological homeostasis."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_fs", "start_ref": "1", "end_ref": "10"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn contrast to the extensive focus on the intricate regulation, post‐translational modifications, and biological implications of p53 family signaling, none of these abstracts mention or provide functional data regarding MRPL50. The function of MRPL50 as part of the mitochondrial ribosome, and any potential cross-talk with these signaling networks, remains to be elucidated.
