OR2A42 Gene

HGNC Family G protein-coupled receptors
Name olfactory receptor, family 2, subfamily A, member 42
Description Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor proteins are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) arising from single coding-exon genes. Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

It directly interacts with E3 ubiquitin ligases such as Itch by binding to its WW domains, thereby competing with substrates like p73α, c‑Jun, and p63. This interaction inhibits substrate recruitment and subsequent ubiquitination, contributing to the stabilization of critical cell death regulators and potentially impacting tumor progression and chemosensitivity."}, {"type": "fg", "children": [{"type": "fg_f", "ref": "1"}]}, {"type": "t", "text": ""}]}, {"type": "t", "text": "\n\n"}, {"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nIn immune cells, N4BP1 acts as a potent suppressor of inflammation. In the skin, high levels of N4BP1 restrict keratinocyte proliferation by binding to the mRNAs of AP‑1 transcription factors (JunB and FosB), thereby reducing their stability and curbing inflammatory cell recruitment—mechanisms that are critical to preventing psoriasis.
