{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent research has identified the long noncoding RNA RPL29P2 as a significant player in the pathogenesis of peritoneal membrane fibrosis (PMF) observed in long-term peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Elevated levels of RPL29P2 in the peritoneal membrane correlate with both the severity of fibrosis and the associated loss of peritoneal transport function. Functional studies, including in vitro assays with human peritoneal mesothelial cells and in vivo rat models, have demonstrated that RPL29P2 acts by targeting miR-1184, leading to the upregulation of collagen type I alpha 1 chain (COL1A1). This molecular interplay appears to drive the high-glucose-induced phenotypic transition of mesothelial cells, contributing to fibrosis.
