{"type": "root", "children": [{"type": "p", "children": [{"type": "t", "text": "\nRecent transcriptomic analyses have identified small leucine‐rich protein 1 (SMLR1) as a liver‐ and small intestine–specific protein that is co-expressed with microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTTP), a key enzyme in the lipidation of apolipoprotein B and very‐low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) assembly. Although the precise molecular function of SMLR1 remains to be fully elucidated, its exclusive expression profile and co-expression with MTTP suggest that it may play an important role in the biogenesis and secretion of VLDL, potentially impacting hepatic and plasma lipid levels.
