Description This gene encodes a zinc finger protein that may play a role in the repair of DNA damage and maintenance of genome stability. The N-terminal C2H2 zinc finger motif is required to form a protein complex with PARP1 and MRE11, which are known to be involved in the restart of stalled DNA replication forks. It is rapidly induced by DNA damage signals – both by telomere dysfunction and double‐strand breaks – and is directly activated by p53 under conditions of telomere erosion. In these settings, ZNF365 suppresses the expression of common fragile sites, including telomeres, thereby preventing aberrant recombination events. Moreover, it participates in the homologous recombination repair pathway by interacting with poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) to tether MRE11 at the DNA end resection sites.
