GPT Geneglutamic-pyruvate transaminase (alanine aminotransferase) This gene encodes cytosolic alanine aminotransaminase 1 (ALT1); also known as glutamate-pyruvate transaminase 1. This enzyme catalyzes the reversible transamination between alanine and 2-oxoglutarate to generate pyruvate and glutamate and, therefore, plays a key role in the intermediary metabolism of glucose and amino acids. Serum activity levels of this enzyme are routinely used as a biomarker of liver injury caused by drug toxicity, infection, alcohol, and steatosis. A related gene on chromosome 16 encodes a putative mitochondrial alanine aminotransaminase.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009] |
GPT2 Geneglutamic pyruvate transaminase (alanine aminotransferase) 2 This gene encodes a mitochondrial alanine transaminase, a pyridoxal enzyme that catalyzes the reversible transamination between alanine and 2-oxoglutarate to generate pyruvate and glutamate. Alanine transaminases play roles in gluconeogenesis and amino acid metabolism in many tissues including skeletal muscle, kidney, and liver. Activating transcription factor 4 upregulates this gene under metabolic stress conditions in hepatocyte cell lines. A loss of function mutation in this gene has been associated with developmental encephalopathy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2015] |
GFPT1 Geneglutamine--fructose-6-phosphate transaminase 1 This gene encodes the first and rate-limiting enzyme of the hexosamine pathway and controls the flux of glucose into the hexosamine pathway. The product of this gene catalyzes the formation of glucosamine 6-phosphate. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2008] |
GFPT2 Geneglutamine-fructose-6-phosphate transaminase 2 Enables glutamine-fructose-6-phosphate transaminase (isomerizing) activity. Involved in UDP-N-acetylglucosamine biosynthetic process and fructose 6-phosphate metabolic process. Predicted to be located in cytosol. Implicated in type 2 diabetes mellitus. GOT1L1 Geneglutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 1-like 1 Predicted to enable L-aspartate:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase activity. Predicted to be involved in aspartate biosynthetic process. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm. Predicted to be active in cytosol. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |

GOT2 Geneglutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 2, mitochondrial Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme which exists in cytoplasmic and inner-membrane mitochondrial forms, GOT1 and GOT2, respectively. GOT plays a role in amino acid metabolism and the urea and tricarboxylic acid cycles. The two enzymes are homodimeric and show close homology. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2013] |
GOT1 Geneglutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 1, soluble Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme which exists in cytoplasmic and mitochondrial forms, GOT1 and GOT2, respectively. GOT plays a role in amino acid metabolism and the urea and tricarboxylic acid cycles. The two enzymes are homodimeric and show close homology. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
