CLA3 Gene

cerebellar ataxia 3 (cerebellar parenchyma disorder 1)

RD3L Gene

retinal degeneration 3-like

PRPH2 Gene

peripherin 2 (retinal degeneration, slow)

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein found in the outer segment of both rod and cone photoreceptor cells. It may function as an adhesion molecule involved in stabilization and compaction of outer segment disks or in the maintenance of the curvature of the rim. This protein is essential for disk morphogenesis. Defects in this gene are associated with both central and peripheral retinal degenerations. Some of the various phenotypically different disorders are autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa, progressive macular degeneration, macular dystrophy and retinitis pigmentosa digenic. PRCD Gene

progressive rod-cone degeneration

This gene is predominantly expressed in the retina, and mutations in this gene are the cause of autosomal recessive retinal degeneration in both humans and dogs. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

RD3 Gene

retinal degeneration 3

This gene encodes a retinal protein that is associated with promyelocytic leukemia-gene product (PML) bodies in the nucleus. Mutations in this gene cause Leber congenital amaurosis type 12, a disease that results in retinal degeneration. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

CLAM Gene

cerebellar atrophy with progressive microcephaly

CCCSX Gene

Cerebral-cerebellar-coloboma syndrome, X-linked

CHMRQ Gene

Cerebellar hypoplasia, mental retardation, and quadrupedal locomotion

ATCAY Gene

ataxia, cerebellar, Cayman type

This gene encodes a neuron-restricted protein that contains a CRAL-TRIO motif common to proteins that bind small lipophilic molecules. Mutations in this gene are associated with cerebellar ataxia, Cayman type. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

SSSCA1 Gene

Sjogren syndrome/scleroderma autoantigen 1

This antigen is recognized by a subset of anti-centromere antibodies from patients with scleroderma and/or Sjogren's syndrome. Subcellular localization has not yet been established. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

SSB Gene

Sjogren syndrome antigen B (autoantigen La)

The protein encoded by this gene is involved in diverse aspects of RNA metabolism, including binding and protecting poly(U) termini of nascent RNA polymerase III transcripts from exonuclease digestion, processing 5' and 3' ends of pre-tRNA precursors, acting as an RNA chaperone, and binding viral RNAs associated with hepatitis C virus. Autoantibodies reacting with this protein are found in the sera of patients with Sjogren syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus. Alternative promoter usage results in two different transcript variants which encode the same protein. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2014]

LOC102724426 Gene

Sjoegren syndrome nuclear autoantigen 1 homolog

LOC441904 Gene

autoantigen La-like

LOC100420536 Gene

islet cell autoantigen 1, 69kDa pseudogene

ICA1L Gene

islet cell autoantigen 1,69kDa-like

Predicted to enable protein domain specific binding activity. Predicted to be involved in regulation of transport. Predicted to act upstream of or within spermatid development. Predicted to be located in acrosomal vesicle. Predicted to be active in Golgi apparatus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

ICA1 Gene

islet cell autoantigen 1, 69kDa

This gene encodes a protein with an arfaptin homology domain that is found both in the cytosol and as membrane-bound form on the Golgi complex and immature secretory granules. This protein is believed to be an autoantigen in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and primary Sjogren's syndrome. Several transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2013]

LOC653588 Gene

Sjogren syndrome antigen B (autoantigen La) pseudogene

UACA Gene

uveal autoantigen with coiled-coil domains and ankyrin repeats

This gene encodes a protein that contains ankyrin repeats and coiled coil domains and likely plays a role in apoptosis. Studies in rodents have implicated the encoded protein in the stimulation of apoptosis and the regulation of mammary gland involution, in which the mammary gland returns to its pre-pregnant state. This protein has also been proposed to negatively regulate apoptosis based on experiments in human cell lines in which the protein was shown to interact with PRKC apoptosis WT1 regulator protein, also known as PAR-4, and inhibit translocation of the PAR-4 receptor. Autoantibodies to this protein have been identified in human patients with panuveitis and Graves' disease. Differential expression of this gene has been observed in various human cancers. [provided by RefSeq, May 2017]

SSNA1 Gene

Sjogren syndrome nuclear autoantigen 1

Enables identical protein binding activity and microtubule binding activity. Involved in axonogenesis; cell division; and microtubule nucleation. Located in several cellular components, including axoneme; microtubule organizing center; and midbody. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]
