RSPH9 Generadial spoke head 9 homolog (Chlamydomonas) This gene encodes a protein thought to be a component of the radial spoke head in motile cilia and flagella. Mutations in this gene are associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia 12. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010] |
RSPH10B Generadial spoke head 10 homolog B (Chlamydomonas) Predicted to enable kinase activity. Predicted to be located in 9+2 motile cilium. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
RSPH10B2 Generadial spoke head 10 homolog B2 (Chlamydomonas) This gene encodes a protein component of the radial spoke head in flagella and motile cilia. Eukaryotic flagella and motile cilia share a common 9 + 2 structure, in which nine peripheral microtubule doublets (MTDs) surround a central-pair of microtubules (CP), with radial spokes connecting the MTDs to the CP. The radial spoke is a multi-protein complex that works as a mechanochemical transducer between the CP and the MTDs. The radial spoke contributes to the regulation of the activity of dynein motors, and thus to flagellar motility. PMID: 22754630 provides a good review of radial spokes. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2017] |
RSPH3 Generadial spoke 3 homolog (Chlamydomonas) The protein encoded by this gene acts as a protein kinase A anchoring protein. Mutations in this gene cause primary ciliary dyskinesia; a disorder characterized by defects of the axoneme in motile cilia and sperm flagella. The homolog of this gene was first identified in the blue-green algae Chlamydomonas as encoding a radial spoke protein that formed a structural component of motile cilia and flagella. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2016] |
RSPH1 Generadial spoke head 1 homolog (Chlamydomonas) This gene encodes a male meiotic metaphase chromosome-associated acidic protein. This gene is expressed in tissues with motile cilia or flagella, including the trachea, lungs, airway brushings, and testes. Mutations in this gene result in primary ciliary dyskinesia-24. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014] |

RSPH6A Generadial spoke head 6 homolog A (Chlamydomonas) The protein encoded by this gene is similar to a sea urchin radial spoke head protein. Radial spoke protein complexes form part of the axoneme of eukaryotic flagella and are located between the axoneme's outer ring of doublet microtubules and central pair of microtubules. In Chlamydomonas, radial spoke proteins are thought to regulate the activity of dynein and the symmetry of flagellar bending patterns. This gene maps to a region of chromosome 19 that is linked to primary ciliary dyskinesia-2 (CILD2). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
RSPH14 Generadial spoke head 14 homolog (Chlamydomonas) This gene encodes a protein with no known function but with slight similarity to a yeast vacuolar protein. The gene is located in a region deleted in pediatric rhabdoid tumors of the brain, kidney and soft tissues, but mutations in this gene have not been associated with the disease. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
RSPH4A Generadial spoke head 4 homolog A (Chlamydomonas) This gene encodes a protein that appears to be a component the radial spoke head, as determined by homology to similar proteins in the biflagellate alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and other ciliates. Radial spokes, which are regularly spaced along cilia, sperm, and flagella axonemes, consist of a thin 'stalk' and a bulbous 'head' that form a signal transduction scaffold between the central pair of microtubules and dynein. Mutations in this gene cause primary ciliary dyskinesia 1, a disease arising from dysmotility of motile cilia and sperm. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. NPHS1 Genenephrosis 1, congenital, Finnish type (nephrin) This gene encodes a member of the immunoglobulin family of cell adhesion molecules that functions in the glomerular filtration barrier in the kidney. The gene is primarily expressed in renal tissues, and the protein is a type-1 transmembrane protein found at the slit diaphragm of glomerular podocytes. The slit diaphragm is thought to function as an ultrafilter to exclude albumin and other plasma macromolecules in the formation of urine. Mutations in this gene result in Finnish-type congenital nephrosis 1, characterized by severe proteinuria and loss of the slit diaphragm and foot processes.[provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009] |

BSCL2 GeneBerardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy 2 (seipin) This gene encodes the multi-pass transmembrane protein seipin. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and may be important for lipid droplet morphology. Mutations in this gene have been associated with congenital generalized lipodystrophy type 2 or Berardinelli-Seip syndrome, a rare autosomal recessive disease characterized by a near absence of adipose tissue and severe insulin resistance. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Naturally occurring read-through transcription occurs between this locus and the neighboring locus HNRNPUL2 (heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein U-like 2).[provided by RefSeq, Jul 2024] |
