SYCE1 Gene

synaptonemal complex central element protein 1

This gene encodes a member of the synaptonemal complex, which links homologous chromosomes during prophase I of meiosis. The tripartite structure of the complex is highly conserved amongst metazoans. It consists of two lateral elements and a central region formed by transverse elements and a central element. The protein encoded by this gene localizes to the central element and is required for initiation and elongation of the synapsis. Allelic variants of this gene have been associated with premature ovarian failure and spermatogenic failure. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. HYDIN Gene

HYDIN, axonemal central pair apparatus protein

This gene encodes a protein that may be involved in cilia motility. Mutations in this gene cause of autosomal recessive primary ciliary dyskinesia-5, a disorder characterized by the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the ventricles of the brain. A duplicate copy of this gene has been found in humans on chromosome 1. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2013]

SYCE3 Gene

synaptonemal complex central element protein 3

Predicted to be involved in reciprocal meiotic recombination; spermatogenesis; and synaptonemal complex assembly. Predicted to act upstream of or within positive regulation of apoptotic process; positive regulation of developmental process; and positive regulation of reproductive process. Predicted to be located in chromosome and nucleus. Predicted to be active in central element. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

CTRCT25 Gene

Cataract, central pouch-like, with sutural opacities

SYCE2 Gene

synaptonemal complex central element protein 2

The protein encoded by this gene is part of the synaptonemal complex formed between homologous chromosomes during meiotic prophase. The encoded protein associates with SYCP1 and SYCE1 and is found only where chromosome cores are synapsed. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2012]

RRAD Gene

Ras-related associated with diabetes

Predicted to enable GTP binding activity and calcium channel regulator activity. Predicted to be involved in small GTPase-mediated signal transduction. Predicted to be located in T-tubule. Predicted to be active in plasma membrane. Implicated in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Biomarker of congestive heart failure. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

TNDM Gene

diabetes mellitus, transient neonatal

Transient neonatal diabetes mellitus is associated with overexpression of a region containing the PLAGL1 and HYMAI genes on chromosome 6q24. These genes are normally imprinted and expressed only from the paternal allele. Imprinting is regulated by differential methylation of a CpG island in this region. [provided by RefSeq, May 2015]
