PAXX GenePAXX non-homologous end joining factor The protein encoded by this gene plays a role in the nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway of DNA double-strand break repair. The encoded protein may function to stabilize the Ku70/Ku80 heterodimer to facilitate the assembly and maintain the stability of the NHEJ complex. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016] |

RBPJL Generecombination signal binding protein for immunoglobulin kappa J region-like This gene encodes a member of the suppressor of hairless protein family. A similar protein in mouse is a transcription factor that binds to DNA sequences almost identical to that bound by the Notch receptor signaling pathway transcription factor recombining binding protein J. The mouse protein has been shown to activate transcription in concert with Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen-2. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. SFR1 GeneSWI5-dependent recombination repair 1 Enables nuclear receptor coactivator activity. Involved in cellular response to estrogen stimulus; double-strand break repair via homologous recombination; and positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Located in centrosome; nucleolus; and nucleoplasm. Part of Swi5-Sfr1 complex. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
REC8 GeneREC8 meiotic recombination protein This gene encodes a member of the kleisin family of SMC (structural maintenance of chromosome) protein partners. The protein localizes to the axial elements of chromosomes during meiosis in both oocytes and spermatocytes. In the mouse, the homologous protein is a key component of the meiotic cohesion complex, which regulates sister chromatid cohesion and recombination between homologous chromosomes. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
MRE11B GeneMRE11 meiotic recombination 11 homolog B (pseudogene) |
MRE11A GeneMRE11 meiotic recombination 11 homolog A (S. cerevisiae) This gene encodes a nuclear protein involved in homologous recombination, telomere length maintenance, and DNA double-strand break repair. By itself, the protein has 3' to 5' exonuclease activity and endonuclease activity. The protein forms a complex with the RAD50 homolog; this complex is required for nonhomologous joining of DNA ends and possesses increased single-stranded DNA endonuclease and 3' to 5' exonuclease activities. In conjunction with a DNA ligase, this protein promotes the joining of noncomplementary ends in vitro using short homologies near the ends of the DNA fragments. This gene has a pseudogene on chromosome 3. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
SWI5 GeneSWI5 recombination repair homolog (yeast) Involved in cellular response to ionizing radiation and double-strand break repair via homologous recombination. Part of Swi5-Sfr1 complex. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
RBPJ Generecombination signal binding protein for immunoglobulin kappa J region The protein encoded by this gene is a transcriptional regulator important in the Notch signaling pathway. The encoded protein acts as a repressor when not bound to Notch proteins and an activator when bound to Notch proteins. It is thought to function by recruiting chromatin remodeling complexes containing histone deacetylase or histone acetylase proteins to Notch signaling pathway genes. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene, and several pseudogenes of this gene exist on chromosome 9. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2013] |
REC114 GeneREC114 meiotic recombination protein The protein encoded by this gene is orthologous to the mouse meiotic recombination protein REC114, which is involved in DNA double-strand break formation during meiosis. The encoded protein is conserved in most eukaryotes and was first discovered and characterized in yeast. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2017] |
RAG2 Generecombination activating gene 2 This gene encodes a protein that is involved in the initiation of V(D)J recombination during B and T cell development. This protein forms a complex with the product of the adjacent recombination activating gene 1, and this complex can form double-strand breaks by cleaving DNA at conserved recombination signal sequences. The recombination activating gene 1 component is thought to contain most of the catalytic activity, while the N-terminal of the recombination activating gene 2 component is thought to form a six-bladed propeller in the active core that serves as a binding scaffold for the tight association of the complex with DNA. A C-terminal plant homeodomain finger-like motif in this protein is necessary for interactions with chromatin components, specifically with histone H3 that is trimethylated at lysine 4. Mutations in this gene cause Omenn syndrome, a form of severe combined immunodeficiency associated with autoimmune-like symptoms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
RAG1 Generecombination activating gene 1 The protein encoded by this gene is involved in activation of immunoglobulin V-D-J recombination. The encoded protein is involved in recognition of the DNA substrate, but stable binding and cleavage activity also requires RAG2. Defects in this gene can be the cause of several diseases. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

Involved in several processes, including chromosome segregation; interstrand cross-link repair; and regulation of protein kinase activity.
