IRX5 Geneiroquois homeobox 5 This gene encodes a member of the iroquois homeobox gene family, which are involved in several embryonic developmental processes. Knockout mice lacking this gene show that it is required for retinal cone bipolar cell differentiation, and that it negatively regulates potassium channel gene expression in the heart to ensure coordinated cardiac repolarization. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2011] |

Predicted to be involved in cell development; neuron differentiation; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Predicted to act upstream of or within heart development. Predicted to be located in chromatin. Predicted to be active in nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
IRX6 Geneiroquois homeobox 6 Predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; DNA-binding transcription repressor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; and RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Predicted to be involved in cell development; neuron differentiation; and regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Predicted to act upstream of or within detection of visible light; negative regulation of DNA-templated transcription; and retina morphogenesis in camera-type eye. Predicted to be located in chromatin. Predicted to be active in nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
IRX1 Geneiroquois homeobox 1 This gene encodes a member of the Iroquois homeobox protein family. Homeobox genes in this family are involved in pattern formation in the embryo. The gene product has been identified as a tumor suppressor in gastric (PMID: 21602894, 20440264) and head and neck cancers (PMID: 18559491). A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome 13. IRX3 Geneiroquois homeobox 3 IRX3 is a member of the Iroquois homeobox gene family (see IRX1; MIM 606197) and plays a role in an early step of neural development (Bellefroid et al., 1998 [PubMed 9427753]). Members of this family appear to play multiple roles during pattern formation of vertebrate embryos (Lewis et al., 1999 [PubMed 10370142]).[supplied by OMIM, Aug 2009] |
IRX2 Geneiroquois homeobox 2 IRX2 is a member of the Iroquois homeobox gene family. Members of this family appear to play multiple roles during pattern formation of vertebrate embryos.[supplied by OMIM, Apr 2004] |

HIPK2 Genehomeodomain interacting protein kinase 2 This gene encodes a conserved serine/threonine kinase that is a member of the homeodomain-interacting protein kinase family. The encoded protein interacts with homeodomain transcription factors and many other transcription factors such as p53, and can function as both a corepressor and a coactivator depending on the transcription factor and its subcellular localization. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2011] |
PITX2 Genepaired-like homeodomain 2 This gene encodes a member of the RIEG/PITX homeobox family, which is in the bicoid class of homeodomain proteins. The encoded protein acts as a transcription factor and regulates procollagen lysyl hydroxylase gene expression. This protein plays a role in the terminal differentiation of somatotroph and lactotroph cell phenotypes, is involved in the development of the eye, tooth and abdominal organs, and acts as a transcriptional regulator involved in basal and hormone-regulated activity of prolactin. Mutations in this gene are associated with Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome, iridogoniodysgenesis syndrome, and sporadic cases of Peters anomaly. A similar protein in other vertebrates is involved in the determination of left-right asymmetry during development. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
PITX3 Genepaired-like homeodomain 3 This gene encodes a member of the RIEG/PITX homeobox family, which is in the bicoid class of homeodomain proteins. Members of this family act as transcription factors. This protein is involved in lens formation during eye development. Mutations of this gene have been associated with anterior segment mesenchymal dysgenesis and congenital cataracts. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
PITX1 Genepaired-like homeodomain 1 This gene encodes a member of the RIEG/PITX homeobox family, which is in the bicoid class of homeodomain proteins. Members of this family are involved in organ development and left-right asymmetry. This protein acts as a transcriptional regulator involved in basal and hormone-regulated activity of prolactin. HIPK3 Genehomeodomain interacting protein kinase 3 Enables protein serine/threonine kinase activity. Involved in mRNA transcription; negative regulation of apoptotic process; and protein phosphorylation. Located in cytosol; nuclear body; and plasma membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
HIPK1 Genehomeodomain interacting protein kinase 1 The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the Ser/Thr family of protein kinases and HIPK subfamily. It phosphorylates homeodomain transcription factors and may also function as a co-repressor for homeodomain transcription factors. Alternative splicing results in four transcript variants encoding four distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
HIPK4 Genehomeodomain interacting protein kinase 4 This gene encodes a member of the homeodomain interacting protein kinase (HIPK) family of proteins. While other members of this family are found throughout vertebrates, this member is present only in mammals. Compared to other members of this family, the encoded protein lacks a nuclear localization signal and a C-terminal autoinhibitory domain. The encoded protein exhibits kinase activity and may phosphorylate the tumor suppressor protein p53. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016] |
