TEKT2 Genetektin 2 (testicular) This gene product belongs to the tektin family of proteins. Tektins comprise a family of filament-forming proteins that are coassembled with tubulins to form ciliary and flagellar microtubules. This gene is expressed in the testis and its protein is localized to the flagella of the sperms, indicating that it may play a role in spermatogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
FSCN3 Genefascin actin-bundling protein 3, testicular Predicted to enable actin filament binding activity. Predicted to be involved in actin filament bundle assembly; cell migration; and establishment or maintenance of cell polarity. Predicted to be located in cytoskeleton. Predicted to be active in several cellular components, including lamellipodium; microvillus; and ruffle. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
TGCT1 Genetesticular germ cell tumor susceptibility 1 |
ACPT Geneacid phosphatase, testicular Acid phosphatases are enzymes capable of hydrolyzing orthophosphoric acid esters in an acid medium. This gene is up-regulated by androgens and is down-regulated by estrogens in the prostate cancer cell line. This gene exhibits a lower level of expression in testicular cancer tissues than in normal tissues. The protein encoded by this gene has structural similarity to prostatic and lysosomal acid phosphatases. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
TCAM1P Genetesticular cell adhesion molecule 1, pseudogene This pseudogene is located downstream from the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17. This locus evolved by a series of partial duplications that have disrupted the human gene. A homologous gene in mouse encodes a testis-specific cell adhesion protein that may play a role in germ cell-Sertoli cell interactions. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012] |
MSL3P1 Genemale-specific lethal 3 homolog (Drosophila) pseudogene 1 Predicted to be involved in chromatin organization and regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Predicted to be located in nucleus. Predicted to be part of MSL complex and NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
MGCT Genemale germ cell tumor |
MSL2 Genemale-specific lethal 2 homolog (Drosophila) Enables histone H2B ubiquitin ligase activity. Involved in DNA damage response and protein monoubiquitination. Part of MSL complex and nucleus. Is active in chromatin. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
MSL3 Genemale-specific lethal 3 homolog (Drosophila) This gene encodes a nuclear protein that is similar to the product of the Drosophila male-specific lethal-3 gene. The Drosophila protein plays a critical role in a dosage-compensation pathway, which equalizes X-linked gene expression in males and females. Thus, the human protein is thought to play a similar function in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation, and it has been found as part of a complex that is responsible for histone H4 lysine-16 acetylation. This gene can undergo X inactivation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Related pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 2, 7 and 8. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010] |

MSL1 Genemale-specific lethal 1 homolog (Drosophila) Enables protein-macromolecule adaptor activity. Involved in positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Located in nucleoplasm. Part of MSL complex. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
MEA1 Genemale-enhanced antigen 1 Predicted to be involved in male gonad development and spermatogenesis. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |

MAK Genemale germ cell-associated kinase The product of this gene is a serine/threonine protein kinase related to kinases involved in cell cycle regulation. Studies of the mouse and rat homologs have localized the kinase to the chromosomes during meiosis in spermatogenesis, specifically to the synaptonemal complex that exists while homologous chromosomes are paired. Mutations in this gene have been associated with ciliary defects resulting in retinitis pigmentosa 62. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016] |

MMAA Genemethylmalonic aciduria (cobalamin deficiency) cblA type The protein encoded by this gene is involved in the translocation of cobalamin into the mitochondrion, where it is used in the final steps of adenosylcobalamin synthesis. Adenosylcobalamin is a coenzyme required for the activity of methylmalonyl-CoA mutase. Defects in this gene are a cause of methylmalonic aciduria. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
MMAB Genemethylmalonic aciduria (cobalamin deficiency) cblB type This gene encodes a protein that catalyzes the final step in the conversion of vitamin B(12) into adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl), a vitamin B12-containing coenzyme for methylmalonyl-CoA mutase. Mutations in the gene are the cause of vitamin B12-dependent methylmalonic aciduria linked to the cblB complementation group. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2011] |

MMACHC Genemethylmalonic aciduria (cobalamin deficiency) cblC type, with homocystinuria The exact function of the protein encoded by this gene is not known, however, its C-terminal region shows similarity to TonB, a bacterial protein involved in energy transduction for cobalamin (vitamin B12) uptake. Hence, it is postulated that this protein may have a role in the binding and intracellular trafficking of cobalamin. Mutations in this gene are associated with methylmalonic aciduria and homocystinuria type cblC. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009] |
SHFLD2 GeneSplit-hand/foot malformation with long deficiency 2 |
MMADHC Genemethylmalonic aciduria (cobalamin deficiency) cblD type, with homocystinuria This gene encodes a mitochondrial protein that is involved in an early step of vitamin B12 metabolism. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is essential for normal development and survival in humans. Mutations in this gene cause methylmalonic aciduria and homocystinuria type cblD (MMADHC), a disorder of cobalamin metabolism that is characterized by decreased levels of the coenzymes adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin. Pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 11 and X.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2008] |

MCFD2 Genemultiple coagulation factor deficiency 2 This gene encodes a soluble luminal protein with two calmodulin-like EF-hand motifs at its C-terminus. This protein forms a complex with LMAN1 (lectin mannose binding protein 1; also known as ERGIC-53) that facilitates the transport of coagulation factors V (FV) and VIII (FVIII) from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus via an endoplasmic reticulum Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC). Mutations in this gene cause combined deficiency of FV and FVIII (F5F8D); a rare autosomal recessive bleeding disorder characterized by mild to moderate bleeding and coordinate reduction in plasma FV and FVIII levels. This protein has also been shown to maintain stem cell potential in adult central nervous system and is a marker for testicular germ cell tumors. The 3' UTR of this gene contains a transposon-like human repeat element named 'THE 1'. A processed RNA pseudogene of this gene is on chromosome 6p22.1. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016] |
