MNDEC Gene

Microtia with nasolacrimal duct imperforation and eye coloboma

AQP2 Gene

aquaporin 2 (collecting duct)

This gene encodes a water channel protein located in the kidney collecting tubule. It belongs to the MIP/aquaporin family, some members of which are clustered together on chromosome 12q13. Mutations in this gene have been linked to autosomal dominant and recessive forms of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]

SMR3B Gene

submaxillary gland androgen regulated protein 3B

Predicted to enable endopeptidase inhibitor activity. Predicted to be involved in cellular response to lipopolysaccharide; negative regulation of peptidase activity; and regulation of sensory perception of pain. Located in extracellular exosome. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

SMR3A Gene

submaxillary gland androgen regulated protein 3A

Predicted to enable endopeptidase inhibitor activity. Predicted to be involved in regulation of sensory perception of pain. Predicted to be located in extracellular region. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

SAG Gene

S-antigen; retina and pineal gland (arrestin)

Members of arrestin/beta-arrestin protein family are thought to participate in agonist-mediated desensitization of G-protein-coupled receptors and cause specific dampening of cellular responses to stimuli such as hormones, neurotransmitters, or sensory signals. S-arrestin, also known as S-antigen, is a major soluble photoreceptor protein that is involved in desensitization of the photoactivated transduction cascade. It is expressed in the retina and the pineal gland and inhibits coupling of rhodopsin to transducin in vitro. Additionally, S-arrestin is highly antigenic, and is capable of inducing experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Oguchi disease, a rare autosomal recessive form of night blindness. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

ABT1P1 Gene

activator of basal transcription 1 pseudogene 1

BCC5 Gene

Basal cell carcinoma, susceptibility to, 5

ABT1 Gene

activator of basal transcription 1

Basal transcription of genes by RNA polymerase II requires the interaction of TATA-binding protein (TBP) with the core region of class II promoters. Studies in mouse suggest that the protein encoded by this gene likely activates basal transcription from class II promoters by interaction with TBP and the class II promoter DNA. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

BCC6 Gene

Basal cell carcinoma, susceptibility to, 6

BCC4 Gene

Basal cell carcinoma, susceptibility to, 4

BCC1 Gene

Basal cell carcinoma, susceptibility to, 1

BCC2 Gene

Basal cell carcinoma, susceptibility to, 2

BCC3 Gene

Basal cell carcinoma, susceptibility to, 3

IBGC1 Gene

idiopathic basal ganglia calcification 1

IBGC2 Gene

Basal ganglia calcification, idiopathic, 2

BCAM Gene

basal cell adhesion molecule (Lutheran blood group)

This gene encodes Lutheran blood group glycoprotein, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and a receptor for the extracellular matrix protein, laminin. The protein contains five extracellular immunoglobulin domains, a single transmembrane domain, and a short C-terminal cytoplasmic tail. This protein may play a role in epithelial cell cancer and in vaso-occlusion of red blood cells in sickle cell disease. Polymorphisms in this gene define some of the antigens in the Lutheran system and also the Auberger system. Inactivating variants of this gene result in the recessive Lutheran null phenotype, Lu(a-b-), of the Lutheran blood group. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012]

BBOF1 Gene

basal body orientation factor 1

Predicted to be involved in sperm axoneme assembly. Predicted to act upstream of or within several processes, including cilium movement involved in cell motility; negative regulation of microtubule depolymerization; and protein stabilization. Predicted to be located in axoneme; ciliary basal body; and sperm flagellum. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]
