AMACR Gene

alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase

This gene encodes a racemase. The encoded enzyme interconverts pristanoyl-CoA and C27-bile acylCoAs between their (R)- and (S)-stereoisomers. The conversion to the (S)-stereoisomers is necessary for degradation of these substrates by peroxisomal beta-oxidation. Encoded proteins from this locus localize to both mitochondria and peroxisomes. Mutations in this gene may be associated with adult-onset sensorimotor neuropathy, pigmentary retinopathy, and adrenomyeloneuropathy due to defects in bile acid synthesis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. Read-through transcription also exists between this gene and the upstream neighboring C1QTNF3 (C1q and tumor necrosis factor related protein 3) gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2011]

SRR Gene

serine racemase

Enables several functions, including L-serine ammonia-lyase activity; PDZ domain binding activity; and heterocyclic compound binding activity. Involved in carboxylic acid metabolic process and response to lipopolysaccharide. Located in cytoplasm and neuronal cell body. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

LOC100420304 Gene

alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase pseudogene

AES Gene

amino-terminal enhancer of split

The protein encoded by this gene is similar in sequence to the amino terminus of Drosophila enhancer of split groucho, a protein involved in neurogenesis during embryonic development. The encoded protein, which belongs to the groucho/TLE family of proteins, can function as a homooligomer or as a heteroologimer with other family members to dominantly repress the expression of other family member genes. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

AABT Gene

Beta-amino acids, renal transport of

PAOX Gene

polyamine oxidase (exo-N4-amino)

Enables polyamine oxidase activity. Involved in polyamine metabolic process and positive regulation of spermidine biosynthetic process. Predicted to be located in cytosol and peroxisomal matrix. Predicted to be active in cytoplasm. Implicated in lung non-small cell carcinoma. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]
