LACE1 Gene

lactation elevated 1

This gene encodes a mitochondrial integral membrane protein that plays a role in mitochondrial protein homeostasis. The protein contains a P-loop motif and a five-domain structure that is conserved in fly, yeast, and bacteria. It functions to mediate the degradation of nuclear-encoded complex IV subunits. Two conserved estrogen receptor binding sites are located within 2.5 kb of this gene. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with bipolar disorder. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016]

HDLCQ6 Gene

High density lipoprotein cholesterol level QTL 6

HDLCQ1 Gene

high density lipoprotein cholesterol level QTL 1

CH25H Gene

cholesterol 25-hydroxylase

This is an intronless gene that is involved in cholesterol and lipid metabolism. The encoded protein is a membrane protein and contains clusters of histidine residues essential for catalytic activity. Unlike most other sterol hydroxylases, this enzyme is a member of a small family of enzymes that utilize diiron cofactors to catalyze the hydroxylation of hydrophobic substrates. CLQTL1 Gene

cholesterol-lowering factor

CLQTL2 Gene

Cholesterol level QTL 2

NCEH1 Gene

neutral cholesterol ester hydrolase 1

Predicted to enable serine hydrolase activity. Predicted to be involved in ether lipid metabolic process. Predicted to act upstream of or within protein dephosphorylation and xenobiotic metabolic process. Located in membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

LIPA Gene

lipase A, lysosomal acid, cholesterol esterase

This gene encodes lipase A, the lysosomal acid lipase (also known as cholesterol ester hydrolase). This enzyme functions in the lysosome to catalyze the hydrolysis of cholesteryl esters and triglycerides. Mutations in this gene can result in Wolman disease and cholesteryl ester storage disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2014]

LCAT Gene

lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase

This gene encodes the extracellular cholesterol esterifying enzyme, lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase. The esterification of cholesterol is required for cholesterol transport. Mutations in this gene have been found to cause fish-eye disease as well as LCAT deficiency. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
