GYG1 Geneglycogenin 1 This gene encodes a member of the glycogenin family. Glycogenin is a glycosyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of a short glucose polymer from uridine diphosphate glucose in an autoglucosylation reaction. This reaction is followed by elongation and branching of the polymer, catalyzed by glycogen synthase and branching enzyme, to form glycogen. This gene is expressed in muscle and other tissues. Mutations in this gene result in glycogen storage disease XV. This gene has pseudogenes on chromosomes 1, 8 and 13 respectively. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010] |
GYG2 Geneglycogenin 2 This gene encodes a member of the the glycogenin family. Glycogenin is a self-glucosylating protein involved in the initiation reactions of glycogen biosynthesis. A gene on chromosome 3 encodes the muscle glycogenin and this X-linked gene encodes the glycogenin mainly present in liver; both are involved in blood glucose homeostasis. This gene has a short version on chromosome Y, which is 3' truncated and can not make a functional protein. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010] |

ALG8 GeneALG8, alpha-1,3-glucosyltransferase This gene encodes a member of the ALG6/ALG8 glucosyltransferase family. The encoded protein catalyzes the addition of the second glucose residue to the lipid-linked oligosaccharide precursor for N-linked glycosylation of proteins. Mutations in this gene have been associated with congenital disorder of glycosylation type Ih (CDG-Ih). Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
ALG6 GeneALG6, alpha-1,3-glucosyltransferase This gene encodes a member of the ALG6/ALG8 glucosyltransferase family. The encoded protein catalyzes the addition of the first glucose residue to the growing lipid-linked oligosaccharide precursor of N-linked glycosylation. Mutations in this gene are associated with congenital disorders of glycosylation type Ic. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
ALG5 GeneALG5, dolichyl-phosphate beta-glucosyltransferase This gene encodes a member of the glycosyltransferase 2 family. The encoded protein participates in glucosylation of the oligomannose core in N-linked glycosylation of proteins. The addition of glucose residues to the oligomannose core is necessary to ensure substrate recognition, and therefore, effectual transfer of the oligomannose core to the nascent glycoproteins. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2008] |
ALG10 GeneALG10, alpha-1,2-glucosyltransferase This gene encodes a membrane-associated protein that adds the third glucose residue to the lipid-linked oligosaccharide precursor for N-linked glycosylation. That is, it transfers the terminal glucose from dolichyl phosphate glucose (Dol-P-Glc) onto the lipid-linked oligosaccharide Glc2Man9GlcNAc(2)-PP-Dol. The rat protein homolog was shown to specifically modulate the gating function of the rat neuronal ether-a-go-go (EAG) potassium ion channel. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010] |
UGGT2 GeneUDP-glucose glycoprotein glucosyltransferase 2 UDP-glucose:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase (UGT) is a soluble protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) that selectively reglucosylates unfolded glycoproteins, thus providing quality control for protein transport out of the ER.[supplied by OMIM, Oct 2009] |
UGGT1 GeneUDP-glucose glycoprotein glucosyltransferase 1 UDP-glucose:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase (UGT) is a soluble protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) that selectively reglucosylates unfolded glycoproteins, thus providing quality control for protein transport out of the ER.[supplied by OMIM, Oct 2009] |
UGCG GeneUDP-glucose ceramide glucosyltransferase This gene encodes an enzyme that catalyzes the first glycosylation step in the biosynthesis of glycosphingolipids, which are membrane components containing lipid and sugar moieties. The product of this reaction is glucosylceramide, which is the core structure of many glycosphingolipids. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014] |
POGLUT1 Geneprotein O-glucosyltransferase 1 This gene encodes a protein with both O-glucosyltransferase and O-xylosyltransferase activity which localizes to the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum. This protein has a carboxy-terminal KTEL motif which is predicted to function as an endoplasmic reticulum retention signal. This gene is an essential regulator of Notch signalling and likely plays a role in cell fate and tissue formation during development. It may also play a role in the pathogenesis of leukemia. Mutations in this gene have been associated with the autosomal dominant genodermatosis Dowling-Degos disease 4. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. ALG10B GeneALG10B, alpha-1,2-glucosyltransferase Enables dolichyl pyrophosphate Glc2Man9GlcNAc2 alpha-1,2-glucosyltransferase activity. Involved in dolichol-linked oligosaccharide biosynthetic process. Located in plasma membrane. Is active in endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Implicated in long QT syndrome 2. B3GLCT Genebeta 3-glucosyltransferase The protein encoded by this gene is a beta-1,3-glucosyltransferase that transfers glucose to O-linked fucosylglycans on thrombospondin type-1 repeats (TSRs) of several proteins. The encoded protein is a type II membrane protein. Defects in this gene are a cause of Peters-plus syndrome (PPS).[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009] |
POGLUT2 Geneprotein O-glucosyltransferase 2 This gene encodes a protein product localized to the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum. As a member of the endoplasmic reticulum protein family the encoded protein contains a Lys-Asp-Glu-Leu or KDEL motif located at the extreme C-terminus which prevents all endoplasmic reticulum resident proteins from being secreted. Proteins carrying this motif are bound by a receptor in the Golgi apparatus so that the receptor-ligand complex returns to the endoplasmic reticulum. A processed non-transcribed pseudogene located in an intron of a sodium transporter gene on chromosome 5 has been defined for this gene. This gene has multiple transcript variants which are predicted to encode distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016] |
POGLUT3 Geneprotein O-glucosyltransferase 3 Enables UDP-glucosyltransferase activity and UDP-xylosyltransferase activity. Involved in protein O-linked glycosylation via serine. Predicted to be located in endoplasmic reticulum lumen. Predicted to be active in endomembrane system. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
