VGF Gene

VGF nerve growth factor inducible

This gene is specifically expressed in a subpopulation of neuroendocrine cells, and is upregulated by nerve growth factor. The structural organization of this gene is similar to that of the rat gene, and both the translated and the untranslated regions show a high degree of sequence similarity to the rat gene. The encoded secretory protein also shares similarities with the secretogranin/chromogranin family, however, its exact function is not known. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

NGFRAP1 Gene

nerve growth factor receptor (TNFRSF16) associated protein 1

Enables identical protein binding activity. Predicted to be involved in negative regulation of protein ubiquitination and signal transduction. Predicted to act upstream of or within extrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway via death domain receptors. Located in cytosol. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

NGF Gene

nerve growth factor (beta polypeptide)

This gene is a member of the NGF-beta family and encodes a secreted protein which homodimerizes and is incorporated into a larger complex. This protein has nerve growth stimulating activity and the complex is involved in the regulation of growth and the differentiation of sympathetic and certain sensory neurons. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy, type 5 (HSAN5), and dysregulation of this gene's expression is associated with allergic rhinitis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

NGFG Gene

Nerve growth factor, gamma subunit

NGFR Gene

nerve growth factor receptor

Nerve growth factor receptor contains an extracellular domain containing four 40-amino acid repeats with 6 cysteine residues at conserved positions followed by a serine/threonine-rich region, a single transmembrane domain, and a 155-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. The cysteine-rich region contains the nerve growth factor binding domain. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

PTLAH Gene

patella aplasia-hypoplasia

AMMECR1 Gene

Alport syndrome, mental retardation, midface hypoplasia and elliptocytosis chromosomal region gene 1

The exact function of this gene is not known, however, submicroscopic deletion of the X chromosome including this gene, COL4A5, and FACL4 genes, result in a contiguous gene deletion syndrome, the AMME complex (Alport syndrome, mental retardation, midface hypoplasia, and elliptocytosis). Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]

OPA6 Gene

optic atrophy 6 (autosomal recessive)

OPA4 Gene

optic atrophy 4 (autosomal dominant)

OPA5 Gene

optic atrophy 5 (autosomal dominant)

OPA2 Gene

optic atrophy 2 (obscure)

OPA1 Gene

optic atrophy 1 (autosomal dominant)

The protein encoded by this gene is a nuclear-encoded mitochondrial protein with similarity to dynamin-related GTPases. The encoded protein localizes to the inner mitochondrial membrane and helps regulate mitochondrial stability and energy output. This protein also sequesters cytochrome c. Mutations in this gene have been associated with optic atrophy type 1, which is a dominantly inherited optic neuropathy resulting in progressive loss of visual acuity, leading in many cases to legal blindness. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2017]

OPA3 Gene

optic atrophy 3 (autosomal recessive, with chorea and spastic paraplegia)

The mouse ortholog of this protein co-purifies with the mitochondrial inner membrane. Mutations in this gene have been shown to result in 3-methylglutaconic aciduria type III and autosomal dominant optic atrophy and cataract. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]
