CRP GeneC-reactive protein, pentraxin-related The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the pentraxin family which also includes serum amyloid P component protein and pentraxin 3. Pentraxins are involved in complement activation and amplification via communication with complement initiation pattern recognition molecules, but also complement regulation via recruitment of complement regulators. The encoded protein has a calcium dependent ligand binding domain with a distinctive flattened beta-jellyroll structure. It exists in two forms as either a pentamer in circulation or as a nonsoluble monomer in tissues. It is involved in several host defense related functions based on its ability to recognize foreign pathogens and damaged cells of the host and to initiate their elimination by interacting with humoral and cellular effector systems in the blood. Consequently, the level of this protein in plasma increases greatly during acute phase response to tissue injury, infection, or other inflammatory stimuli. Elevated expression of the encoded protein is associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS208;CoV208;2) infection. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2020] |
ROMO1 Genereactive oxygen species modulator 1 The protein encoded by this gene is a mitochondrial membrane protein that is responsible for increasing the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells. The protein also has antimicrobial activity against a variety of bacteria by inducing bacterial membrane breakage. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2014] |
NRROS Genenegative regulator of reactive oxygen species Enables transforming growth factor beta binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including microglia development; sequestering of TGFbeta in extracellular matrix; and transforming growth factor beta receptor signaling pathway. Located in cell surface. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
MASP1 Genemannan-binding lectin serine peptidase 1 (C4/C2 activating component of Ra-reactive factor) This gene encodes a serine protease that functions as a component of the lectin pathway of complement activation. The complement pathway plays an essential role in the innate and adaptive immune response. The encoded protein is synthesized as a zymogen and is activated when it complexes with the pathogen recognition molecules of lectin pathway, the mannose-binding lectin and the ficolins. This protein is not directly involved in complement activation but may play a role as an amplifier of complement activation by cleaving complement C2 or by activating another complement serine protease, MASP-2. The encoded protein is also able to cleave fibrinogen and factor XIII and may may be involved in coagulation. A splice variant of this gene which lacks the serine protease domain functions as an inhibitor of the complement pathway. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Apr 2010] |
RIDA Genereactive intermediate imine deaminase A homolog Enables mRNA binding activity. Involved in mRNA catabolic process and mRNA destabilization. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
