APC Gene

adenomatous polyposis coli

This gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that acts as an antagonist of the Wnt signaling pathway. It is also involved in other processes including cell migration and adhesion, transcriptional activation, and apoptosis. Defects in this gene cause familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant pre-malignant disease that usually progresses to malignancy. Mutations in the APC gene have been found to occur in most colorectal cancers, where disease-associated mutations tend to be clustered in a small region designated the mutation cluster region (MCR) and result in a truncated protein product. APCDD1L Gene

adenomatosis polyposis coli down-regulated 1-like

Predicted to enable Wnt-protein binding activity. Predicted to be involved in negative regulation of Wnt signaling pathway. Predicted to be located in plasma membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

APCDD1 Gene

adenomatosis polyposis coli down-regulated 1

This locus encodes an inhibitor of the Wnt signaling pathway. Mutations at this locus have been associated with hereditary hypotrichosis simplex. Increased expression of this gene may also be associated with colorectal carcinogenesis.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]

APC2 Gene

adenomatosis polyposis coli 2

This gene encodes a strongly conserved protein that has an N-terminal coiled-coil domain followed by an armadillo domain, five 20-amino acid repeats, and two SAMP domains. This protein promotes the assembly of a multiprotein complex that recruits and phosphorylates the Wnt effector beta-catenin and targets beta-catenin for ubiquitylation and proteasomal degradation. This protein therefore plays a role in the reduction of cytoplasmic levels of beta-catenin which in turn reduces activation of Wnt target genes that play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of various human cancers. The protein encoded by this gene is closely related to the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) tumor-suppressor protein and has similar tumor-suppressor effects. This gene also plays a role in actin assembly, cell-cell adhesion, and microtubule network formation through its interaction with cytoskeletal proteins. This gene has its highest expression in the central nervous system and is involved in brain development through cytoskeletal regulation in neurons. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, May 2017]

GIF Gene

gastric intrinsic factor (vitamin B synthesis)

This gene is a member of the cobalamin transport protein family. It encodes a glycoprotein secreted by parietal cells of the gastric mucosa and is required for adequate absorption of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is necessary for erythrocyte maturation and mutations in this gene may lead to congenital pernicious anemia. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

GHET1 Gene

gastric carcinoma proliferation enhancing transcript 1

This gene encodes an unspliced long non-coding RNA that has been suggested to promote the proliferation of gastric carcinoma cells and bladder cancer cells. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014]

GAPLINC Gene

gastric adenocarcinoma associated, positive CD44 regulator, long intergenic non-coding RNA

GIP Gene

gastric inhibitory polypeptide

This gene encodes an incretin hormone and belongs to the glucagon superfamily. The encoded protein is important in maintaining glucose homeostasis as it is a potent stimulator of insulin secretion from pancreatic beta-cells following food ingestion and nutrient absorption. This gene stimulates insulin secretion via its G protein-coupled receptor activation of adenylyl cyclase and other signal transduction pathways. It is a relatively poor inhibitor of gastric acid secretion. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

LIPF Gene

lipase, gastric

This gene encodes gastric lipase, an enzyme involved in the digestion of dietary triglycerides in the gastrointestinal tract, and responsible for 30% of fat digestion processes occurring in human. It is secreted by gastric chief cells in the fundic mucosa of the stomach, and it hydrolyzes the ester bonds of triglycerides under acidic pH conditions. The gene is a member of a conserved gene family of lipases that play distinct roles in neutral lipid metabolism. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]

GIPR Gene

gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor

This gene encodes a G-protein coupled receptor for gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), which was originally identified as an activity in gut extracts that inhibited gastric acid secretion and gastrin release, but subsequently was demonstrated to stimulate insulin release in the presence of elevated glucose. Mice lacking this gene exhibit higher blood glucose levels with impaired initial insulin response after oral glucose load. Defect in this gene thus may contribute to the pathogenesis of diabetes. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]

OS4 Gene

Osteoarthritis, generalized, without dysplasia, susceptibility to

TNFRSF10C Gene

tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, member 10c, decoy without an intracellular domain

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the TNF-receptor superfamily. This receptor contains an extracellular TRAIL-binding domain and a transmembrane domain, but no cytoplasmic death domain. This receptor is not capable of inducing apoptosis, and is thought to function as an antagonistic receptor that protects cells from TRAIL-induced apoptosis. This gene was found to be a p53-regulated DNA damage-inducible gene. The expression of this gene was detected in many normal tissues but not in most cancer cell lines, which may explain the specific sensitivity of cancer cells to the apoptosis-inducing activity of TRAIL. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

CTEPH1 Gene

Pulmonary hypertension, chronic thromboembolic, without deep vein thrombosis, susceptibility to

MGR3 Gene

Migraine, familial, with or without aura, susceptibility to

MGR5 Gene

LILRA3 Gene

leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor, subfamily A (without TM domain), member 3

This gene encodes a member of a family of immunoreceptors that are expressed predominantly in monocytes and B cells, and at lower levels in dendritic cells and natural killer cells. The encoded protein lacks the transmembrane region found in other members of this family. It acts as a soluble receptor for class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found. This gene is located in a cluster of related genes on chromosome 19 and is polymorphic in human populations, with many individuals containing a deletion of this genomic region.
