EED Geneembryonic ectoderm development This gene encodes a member of the Polycomb-group (PcG) family. PcG family members form multimeric protein complexes, which are involved in maintaining the transcriptional repressive state of genes over successive cell generations. This protein interacts with enhancer of zeste 2, the cytoplasmic tail of integrin beta7, immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) MA protein, and histone deacetylase proteins. This protein mediates repression of gene activity through histone deacetylation, and may act as a specific regulator of integrin function. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
LOC266694 Geneembryonic ectoderm development pseudogene This locus is 89-91% identical to the embryonic ectoderm development gene on chromosome 11. This locus has a single exon and has no evidence of transcription, and so it is thought to be a pseudogene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

MELK Genematernal embryonic leucine zipper kinase Enables calcium ion binding activity; non-membrane spanning protein tyrosine kinase activity; and protein serine/threonine kinase activity. Involved in apoptotic process; cell population proliferation; and protein autophosphorylation. Located in cell cortex and plasma membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
MYL4 Genemyosin, light chain 4, alkali; atrial, embryonic Myosin is a hexameric ATPase cellular motor protein. It is composed of two myosin heavy chains, two nonphosphorylatable myosin alkali light chains, and two phosphorylatable myosin regulatory light chains. This gene encodes a myosin alkali light chain that is found in embryonic muscle and adult atria. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
TEF Genethyrotrophic embryonic factor This gene encodes a member of the PAR (proline and acidic amino acid-rich) subfamily of basic region/leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors. It is expressed in a broad range of cells and tissues in adult animals, however, during embryonic development, TEF expression appears to be restricted to the developing anterior pituitary gland, coincident with the appearance of thyroid-stimulating hormone, beta (TSHB). Indeed, TEF can bind to, and transactivate the TSHB promoter. It shows homology (in the functional domains) with other members of the PAR-bZIP subfamily of transcription factors, which include albumin D box-binding protein (DBP), human hepatic leukemia factor (HLF) and chicken vitellogenin gene-binding protein (VBP); VBP is considered the chicken homologue of TEF. Different members of the subfamily can readily form heterodimers, and share DNA-binding, and transcriptional regulatory properties. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012] |

UTF1 Geneundifferentiated embryonic cell transcription factor 1 The protein encoded by this gene is a leucine zipper-containing transcriptional coactivator that may link the upstream activator ATF2 with the basal transcription complex. The encoded protein is closely associated with chromatin and is required for the proper differentiation of embryonic carcinoma and embryonic stem cells. Found nearly exclusively in pluripotent cells, this protein can also serve as a transcriptional repressor. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015] |
MUSTN1 Genemusculoskeletal, embryonic nuclear protein 1 Predicted to be involved in glucose homeostasis and positive regulation of myoblast differentiation. Predicted to act upstream of or within positive regulation of chondrocyte differentiation; positive regulation of chondrocyte proliferation; and positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process. Predicted to be located in nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
MYH3 Genemyosin, heavy chain 3, skeletal muscle, embryonic Myosin is a major contractile protein which converts chemical energy into mechanical energy through the hydrolysis of ATP. Myosin is a hexameric protein composed of a pair of myosin heavy chains (MYH) and two pairs of nonidentical light chains. This gene is a member of the MYH family and encodes a protein with an IQ domain and a myosin head-like domain. Mutations in this gene have been associated with two congenital contracture (arthrogryposis) syndromes, Freeman-Sheldon syndrome and Sheldon-Hall syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

HAND2 Geneheart and neural crest derivatives expressed 2 The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. This gene product is one of two closely related family members, the HAND proteins, which are asymmetrically expressed in the developing ventricular chambers and play an essential role in cardiac morphogenesis. Working in a complementary fashion, they function in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, implicating them as mediators of congenital heart disease. In addition, this transcription factor plays an important role in limb and branchial arch development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

Working in a complementary fashion, they function in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, implicating them as mediators of congenital heart disease. In addition, it has been suggested that this transcription factor may be required for early trophoblast differentiation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

FABP3 Genefatty acid binding protein 3, muscle and heart The intracellular fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) belongs to a multigene family. FABPs are divided into at least three distinct types, namely the hepatic-, intestinal- and cardiac-type. They form 14-15 kDa proteins and are thought to participate in the uptake, intracellular metabolism and/or transport of long-chain fatty acids. They may also be responsible in the modulation of cell growth and proliferation. Fatty acid-binding protein 3 gene contains four exons and its function is to arrest growth of mammary epithelial cells. This gene is a candidate tumor suppressor gene for human breast cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2016] |
