LMBR1 Gene

limb development membrane protein 1

This gene encodes a member of the LMBR1-like membrane protein family. Another member of this protein family has been shown to be a lipocalin transmembrane receptor. A highly conserved, cis-acting regulatory module for the sonic hedgehog gene is located within an intron of this gene. Consequently, disruption of this genic region can alter sonic hedgehog expression and affect limb patterning, but it is not known if this gene functions directly in limb development. Mutations and chromosomal deletions and rearrangements in this genic region are associated with acheiropody and preaxial polydactyly, which likely result from altered sonic hedgehog expression. LBH Gene

limb bud and heart development

Involved in negative regulation of DNA-templated transcription; positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription; and regulation of MAPK cascade. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Part of protein-containing complex. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

ANOP1 Gene

anophthalmos 1 (with mental retardation, without limb anomalies or dental or urogenital abnormalities)

EED Gene

embryonic ectoderm development

This gene encodes a member of the Polycomb-group (PcG) family. PcG family members form multimeric protein complexes, which are involved in maintaining the transcriptional repressive state of genes over successive cell generations. This protein interacts with enhancer of zeste 2, the cytoplasmic tail of integrin beta7, immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) MA protein, and histone deacetylase proteins. This protein mediates repression of gene activity through histone deacetylation, and may act as a specific regulator of integrin function. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

LOC266694 Gene

embryonic ectoderm development pseudogene

This locus is 89-91% identical to the embryonic ectoderm development gene on chromosome 11. This locus has a single exon and has no evidence of transcription, and so it is thought to be a pseudogene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

FEA Gene

F9 embryonic antigen

MELK Gene

maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase

Enables calcium ion binding activity; non-membrane spanning protein tyrosine kinase activity; and protein serine/threonine kinase activity. Involved in apoptotic process; cell population proliferation; and protein autophosphorylation. Located in cell cortex and plasma membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

MYL4 Gene

myosin, light chain 4, alkali; atrial, embryonic

Myosin is a hexameric ATPase cellular motor protein. It is composed of two myosin heavy chains, two nonphosphorylatable myosin alkali light chains, and two phosphorylatable myosin regulatory light chains. This gene encodes a myosin alkali light chain that is found in embryonic muscle and adult atria. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

TEF Gene

thyrotrophic embryonic factor

This gene encodes a member of the PAR (proline and acidic amino acid-rich) subfamily of basic region/leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors. It is expressed in a broad range of cells and tissues in adult animals, however, during embryonic development, TEF expression appears to be restricted to the developing anterior pituitary gland, coincident with the appearance of thyroid-stimulating hormone, beta (TSHB). Indeed, TEF can bind to, and transactivate the TSHB promoter. It shows homology (in the functional domains) with other members of the PAR-bZIP subfamily of transcription factors, which include albumin D box-binding protein (DBP), human hepatic leukemia factor (HLF) and chicken vitellogenin gene-binding protein (VBP); VBP is considered the chicken homologue of TEF. Different members of the subfamily can readily form heterodimers, and share DNA-binding, and transcriptional regulatory properties. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]

ESRG Gene

embryonic stem cell related (non-protein coding)

Part of nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

UTF1 Gene

undifferentiated embryonic cell transcription factor 1

The protein encoded by this gene is a leucine zipper-containing transcriptional coactivator that may link the upstream activator ATF2 with the basal transcription complex. The encoded protein is closely associated with chromatin and is required for the proper differentiation of embryonic carcinoma and embryonic stem cells. Found nearly exclusively in pluripotent cells, this protein can also serve as a transcriptional repressor. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]

MUSTN1 Gene

musculoskeletal, embryonic nuclear protein 1

Predicted to be involved in glucose homeostasis and positive regulation of myoblast differentiation. Predicted to act upstream of or within positive regulation of chondrocyte differentiation; positive regulation of chondrocyte proliferation; and positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process. Predicted to be located in nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

MYH3 Gene

myosin, heavy chain 3, skeletal muscle, embryonic

Myosin is a major contractile protein which converts chemical energy into mechanical energy through the hydrolysis of ATP. Myosin is a hexameric protein composed of a pair of myosin heavy chains (MYH) and two pairs of nonidentical light chains. This gene is a member of the MYH family and encodes a protein with an IQ domain and a myosin head-like domain. Mutations in this gene have been associated with two congenital contracture (arthrogryposis) syndromes, Freeman-Sheldon syndrome and Sheldon-Hall syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
