FAIM2 Gene

Fas apoptotic inhibitory molecule 2

Predicted to enable calcium channel activity. Involved in regulation of neuron apoptotic process. Acts upstream of or within negative regulation of extrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway via death domain receptors. Located in Golgi membrane and membrane raft. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

APAF1 Gene

apoptotic peptidase activating factor 1

This gene encodes a cytoplasmic protein that initiates apoptosis. This protein contains several copies of the WD-40 domain, a caspase recruitment domain (CARD), and an ATPase domain (NB-ARC). Upon binding cytochrome c and dATP, this protein forms an oligomeric apoptosome. The apoptosome binds and cleaves caspase 9 preproprotein, releasing its mature, activated form. Activated caspase 9 stimulates the subsequent caspase cascade that commits the cell to apoptosis. Alternative splicing results in several transcript variants encoding different isoforms. ABALON Gene

apoptotic BCL2L1-antisense long non-coding RNA

ACIN1 Gene

apoptotic chromatin condensation inducer 1

Apoptosis is defined by several morphologic nuclear changes, including chromatin condensation and nuclear fragmentation. This gene encodes a nuclear protein that induces apoptotic chromatin condensation after activation by caspase-3, without inducing DNA fragmentation. This protein has also been shown to be a component of a splicing-dependent multiprotein exon junction complex (EJC) that is deposited at splice junctions on mRNAs, as a consequence of pre-mRNA splicing. It may thus be involved in mRNA metabolism associated with splicing. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]

TIAF1 Gene

TGFB1-induced anti-apoptotic factor 1

FAIM Gene

Fas apoptotic inhibitory molecule

The protein encoded by this gene protects against death receptor-triggered apoptosis and regulates B-cell signaling and differentiation. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2011]

MOBP Gene

myelin-associated oligodendrocyte basic protein

Predicted to be a structural constituent of myelin sheath. Predicted to be involved in nervous system development. Predicted to be located in mitochondrion and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Implicated in frontotemporal dementia. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

MOG Gene

myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein

The product of this gene is a membrane protein expressed on the oligodendrocyte cell surface and the outermost surface of myelin sheaths. Due to this localization, it is a primary target antigen involved in immune-mediated demyelination. This protein may be involved in completion and maintenance of the myelin sheath and in cell-cell communication. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

OLMALINC Gene

oligodendrocyte maturation-associated long intergenic non-coding RNA

OMG Gene

oligodendrocyte myelin glycoprotein

Predicted to enable identical protein binding activity. Predicted to be involved in neuron projection regeneration. Predicted to act upstream of or within regulation of collateral sprouting of intact axon in response to injury. Predicted to be located in plasma membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

OLIG2 Gene

oligodendrocyte lineage transcription factor 2

This gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor which is expressed in oligodendroglial tumors of the brain. The protein is an essential regulator of ventral neuroectodermal progenitor cell fate. The gene is involved in a chromosomal translocation t(14;21)(q11.2;q22) associated with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Its chromosomal location is within a region of chromosome 21 which has been suggested to play a role in learning deficits associated with Down syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

OLIG3 Gene

oligodendrocyte transcription factor 3

Enables sequence-specific double-stranded DNA binding activity. Predicted to be involved in axon development; positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and sensory organ development. Predicted to act upstream of or within negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; spinal cord motor neuron cell fate specification; and spinal cord motor neuron migration. Predicted to be located in chromatin. Predicted to be active in nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]

OLIG1 Gene

oligodendrocyte transcription factor 1

Predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and E-box binding activity. Predicted to be involved in axon development; positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and sensory organ development. Predicted to act upstream of or within neuron fate commitment. Predicted to be located in chromatin. Predicted to be active in nucleus. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025]
