NTSR2 Geneneurotensin receptor 2 The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. Binding and pharmacological studies demonstrate that this receptor binds neurotensin as well as several other ligands already described for neurotensin NT1 receptor. However, unlike NT1 receptor, this gene recognizes, with high affinity, levocabastine, a histamine H1 receptor antagonist previously shown to compete with neurotensin for low-affinity binding sites in brain. These activities suggest that this receptor may be of physiological importance and that a natural agonist for the receptor may exist. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
NTSR1 Geneneurotensin receptor 1 (high affinity) Neurotensin receptor 1 belongs to the large superfamily of G-protein coupled receptors. NTSR1 mediates the multiple functions of neurotensin, such as hypotension, hyperglycemia, hypothermia, antinociception, and regulation of intestinal motility and secretion. NTS Geneneurotensin This gene encodes a common precursor for two peptides, neuromedin N and neurotensin. Neurotensin is a secreted tridecapeptide, which is widely distributed throughout the central nervous system, and may function as a neurotransmitter or a neuromodulator. It may be involved in dopamine-associated pathophysiological events, in the maintenance of gut structure and function, and in the regulation of fat metabolism. Neurotensin also exhibits antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. Tissue-specific processing may lead to the formation in some tissues of larger forms of neuromedin N and neurotensin. The large forms may represent more stable peptides that are also biologically active. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2014] |
NMBR Geneneuromedin B receptor This gene encodes a 7-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor that binds neuromedin B, which is a growth factor and mitogen for gastrointestinal epithelial tissue and for normal and neoplastic lung. This receptor may play a role in smooth muscle contraction, neuronal responses, and the regulation of cell growth. Antagonists of this receptor have a potential therapeutic use in inhibiting tumor cell growth. Polymorphisms in this gene may be associated with a susceptibility for schizophrenia. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016] |
NMUR2 Geneneuromedin U receptor 2 This gene encodes a protein from the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. This protein is a receptor for neuromedin U, which is a neuropeptide that is widely distributed in the gut and central nervous system. This receptor plays an important role in the regulation of food intake and body weight. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
NMUR1 Geneneuromedin U receptor 1 Enables neuromedin U binding activity and neuromedin U receptor activity. Involved in several processes, including calcium-mediated signaling; chloride transport; and positive regulation of calcium-mediated signaling. Located in membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
NMU Geneneuromedin U This gene encodes a member of the neuromedin family of neuropeptides. The encoded protein is a precursor that is proteolytically processed to generate a biologically active neuropeptide that plays a role in pain, stress, immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and feeding regulation. Increased expression of this gene was observed in renal, pancreatic and lung cancers. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. Some of these isoforms may undergo similar processing to generate the mature peptide. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015] |
NMS Geneneuromedin S This gene encodes a member of the neuromedin family of neuropeptides. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate a biologically active neuropeptide that plays a role in the regulation of circadian rhythm, anorexigenic action, antidiuretic action, cardiovascular function and stimulation of oxytocin and vasopressin release. [provided by RefSeq, May 2016] |
NMB Geneneuromedin B This gene encodes a member of the bombesin-like family of neuropeptides, which negatively regulate eating behavior. The encoded protein may regulate colonic smooth muscle contraction through binding to its cognate receptor, the neuromedin B receptor (NMBR). Polymorphisms of this gene may be associated with hunger, weight gain and obesity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015] |
