CBS Genecystathionine-beta-synthase The protein encoded by this gene acts as a homotetramer to catalyze the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine, the first step in the transsulfuration pathway. The encoded protein is allosterically activated by adenosyl-methionine and uses pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. Defects in this gene can cause cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD), which can lead to homocystinuria. This gene is a major contributor to cellular hydrogen sulfide production. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016] |
CNNM1 Genecyclin and CBS domain divalent metal cation transport mediator 1 This gene encodes a member of the ancient conserved domain protein family. The encoded protein may bind copper. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2016] |
CNNM3 Genecyclin and CBS domain divalent metal cation transport mediator 3 Predicted to enable transmembrane transporter activity. Predicted to be involved in magnesium ion homeostasis. Located in membrane. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Mar 2025] |
CNNM2 Genecyclin and CBS domain divalent metal cation transport mediator 2 This gene encodes a member of the ancient conserved domain containing protein family. Members of this protein family contain a cyclin box motif and have structural similarity to the cyclins. The encoded protein may play an important role in magnesium homeostasis by mediating the epithelial transport and renal reabsorption of Mg2+. Mutations in this gene are associated with renal hypomagnesemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011] |
CNNM4 Genecyclin and CBS domain divalent metal cation transport mediator 4 This gene encodes a member of the ancient conserved domain containing protein family. Members of this protein family contain a cyclin box motif and have structural similarity to the cyclins. The encoded protein may play a role in metal ion transport. Mutations in this gene are associated with Jalili syndrome which consists of cone-rod dystrophy and amelogenesis imperfecta. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2010] |
